Introduzione

Ubuntu e, più in generale, i sistemi GNU/Linux dispongono di una enorme varietà di programmi, la maggior parte dei quali è disponibile liberamente e gratuitamente.

In questa pagina vengono presentati inizialmente i principali programmi preinstallati in Ubuntu.
Il paragrafo successivo, invece, fornisce una panoramica divisa per categoria dei principali software disponibili per i sistemi operativi desktop più diffusi. Per facilitare il passaggio a Ubuntu dei nuovi utenti, vengono elencati software sostitutivi, qualora eventuali programmi utilizzati su Windows e Mac OS X non fossero disponibili per Linux, indicando anche le alternative libere ai software proprietari.

Per mantenere questa pagina aggiornata tutti gli utenti sono invitati segnalare nuovi programmi, eventuali link errati, applicazioni non più sviluppate ecc.

Programmi preinstallati in Ubuntu

Di seguito sono riportate brevi descrizioni dei principali programmi preinstallati in Ubuntu.

Accessibilità

Onboard è una tastiera a schermo.

Accesso universale abilita le tecnologie assistive necessarie a supportare gli utenti con disabilità o con necessità particolari.

Accessori

Aiuto offre la guida di Ubuntu Desktop in italiano.	Backup permette di effettuare copie di sicurezza dei propri dati in maniera del tutto automatica e regolare.	Calcolatrice con modalità finanziaria e scientifica.
Dischi è un tool utile per gestire le unità disco e i supporti removibili.	Editor di testo permette anche l'evidenziazione della sintassi del codice sorgente.	File consente di navigare tra i propri file e le proprie cartelle
Gestore di archivi consente di gestire numere tipologie di file complessi come i classici file `zip`, `tar.gz` e molti altri.	Schermata permette di catturare lo schermo del pc o di una sua parte e di salvarlo come file immagine.	Terminale è lo strumento ad interfaccia testuale dei sistemi operativi GNU/Linux.

Grafica

Shotwell è un programma di gestione e modifica di immagini.

Simple Scan consente di utilizzare il proprio scanner e salvare documenti e immagini in differenti formati.

Visualizzatore di immagini

Internet

Browser è il navigatore di rete utilizzato dalle WebApps di Unity. Disponibile a partire da Ubuntu 14.04 LTS	Condivisione desktop consente la visualizzazione remota del desktop di un utente.	Firefox è il navigatore di rete predefinito di Ubuntu.
Empathy è un programma di messaggistica istantanea. Preinstallato fino ad Ubuntu 15.10.	Remmina è un client per la connessione a desktop remoti.	Thunderbird è il client e-mail predefinito di Ubuntu.
Transmission è un client BitTorrent leggero con un'interfaccia semplice e intuitiva.

Multimedia

Rhythmbox permette di gestire e riprodurre la musica presente sul proprio pc o da fonti online.

Video è un riproduttore multimediale audio/video.

Brasero è un'applicazione per la masterizzazione di CD e DVD. Preinstallato fino ad Ubuntu 15.10

Personalizzazione

	Creatore dischi di avvio permette di creare le LiveUSB per l'installazione di Ubuntu in un altro pc.		Sicurezza e privacy permette di gestire la cronologia, le ricerche online della Dash e molto altro.		Supporto Lingue consente di gestire la lingua di sistema e di installare i pacchetti della lingua italiana mancanti.
	Ubuntu Software permette di installare e rimuovere programmi. Preinstallato da Ubuntu 16.04 LTS		Ubuntu Software Center permette di installare e rimuovere programmi. Preinstallato fino ad Ubuntu 15.10

Ufficio

Calendario Preinstallato da Ubuntu 16.04 LTS	LibreOffice Calc è un foglio di calcolo in grado di gestire anche i file creati con Excel.	LibreOffice Draw consente di creare o modificare immagini, diagrammi di flusso o loghi.
LibreOffice Impress consente di creare o modificare presentazioni. Compatibile con Power Point.	LibreOffice Math consente di scrivere formule scientifiche ed equazioni. Preinstallato da Ubuntu 14.04 LTS	LibreOffice Writer è un editor di testo. in grado di gestire anche i documenti creati con Word.
Visualizzatore documenti permette di gestire documenti PDF e altro.
