| Senza internet Una delle cose che ho notato di noi che cerchiamo di aiutare gli utenti Ubuntu è che diamo per scontato che tutti gli utenti hanno una connessione a internet. Io vivo in Sud Africa, dove ho imparato a non dare per scontato che tutti gli utenti Ubuntu possiedono una connessione internet a tempo pieno, che possono permettersi ampia larghezza di banda o che persino dispongono di una connessione ad internet. E' solitamente molto più produttivo per questi utenti comprare una collezione economica di CD e DVD di Ubuntu più i repository. In ogni installazione che eseguo, copio tutti i miei DVD dei repository, di sicurezza e di aggiornamento sull'hard disk locale e modifico la sources.list in modo da aggiungere il disco locale. Di certo si perdono circa 30 Giga di hard disk, ma credo che l'utilità per gli utenti Ubuntu (in particolar modo per quelli nuovi) compensa questo. Sono assolutamente d'accordo al 100%, visto che svariate volte ho installato Ubuntu per qualcuno e in seguito mi sono reso conto che non avevano l'accesso a internet (o una connessione lenta) e non potevano scaricare i pacchetti extra (codec, ecc) il che rende il sistema operativo abbastanza inutilizzabile. E' molto fastidioso e fa fare a Linux una brutta impressione. Ubuntu sta cercando di diventare commerciale? Sto utilizzando Ubuntu da diversi mesi, partendo dalla 9.04, in precedenza ho avuto qualche esperienza con Mandriva e Knoppix. Ero soddisfatto con la versione 9.04, ho aggiornato alla 9.10 e le mie impressioni sono decisamente cambiate. Noto che Ubuntu include molte cose inutili attraenti invece di progredire in una distribuzione matura, stabile e sicura. Noto che Ubuntu sta perdendo la sua umanità per l'aspetto commerciale. Noto troppe sciocchezze inutili invece del supporto hardware. Noto che Ubuntu sta perdendo di vista gli sviluppatori di terze parti, scoraggiandoli con bug costanti e codice inserito solo per evitare che il sistema cada a pezzi. Noto miglioramenti che servono a poco o niente, come la nuova schermata di boot, Ubuntu One e l'Ubuntu Software Centre che è peggiore del suo predecessore. Noto che Moblin sta aggiungendo alcune cose veramente importanti alla loro distribuzione che ha un enorme vantaggio: una programmazione. Loro sanno dove stanno andando e come dovrebbe essere il loro sistema operativo, al contrario di Ubuntu che sta aggiungendo tutta la robaccia che uno può trovare a disposizione e sta perdendo sempre di più in termini di velocità e affidabilità. Non ho notato nessun miglioramento. Ho notato il controsenso di cambiare per tre volte il modo di esecuzione durante il boot e cambiare due volte la retroilluminazione sul mio EEE PC prima di vedere il desktop. Questo è un miglioramento? No, è follia. Un mio consiglio: focalizzarsi sul sistema e farlo funzionare con l'hardware. Abbandonare la programmazione cloud.
