BR Un modulo aperto è un modulo traducibile da tutti, chiunque può tradurlo o modificarne le traduzioni. Alcuni di questi moduli sono relativi anche al rilascio di Ubuntu e ne va comunque controllata la traduzione, altri sono elencati qui perché è il caso di tenerne sotto controllo la traduzione. Le varie linee guida e regole di traduzione vanno applicate comunque anche in questi casi. BR
Esterni
BR Un modulo esterno è un modulo che può far parte di un rilascio di Ubuntu, ma la cui traduzione, in alcuni casi, non dovrebbe essere svolta sul modulo del rilasci. Alcuni di questi moduli possono essere considerati upstream rispetto Ubuntu. Le traduzioni risultano affidate al gruppo Ubuntu Translators o Launchpad Translators, ma qualche volta la politica risulta open. Di questi sarebbe quindi il caso completare e correggere la traduzione upstream ed eventualmente integrare quella di Ubuntu nel caso differisse. BR
Installazione
BR Questi moduli sono relativi all'installazione di Ubuntu. Alcuni sono traducibili esternamente al rilascio, ma seguono la stessa scadenza dei rilasci di Ubuntu. BR

Relativi all'installazione ci sono anche i moduli dell'aiuto del debian-installer: upstream sono stati tradotti, il problema è che non esistono file PO da upstream, le traduzioni vengono ancora fatte sui file XML. Esiste una procedura per convertire il file XML in file PO, ma deve essere eseguita solo se la traduzione dei file XML e al 100%. È comunque necessario consultare le traduzioni di Debian e in caso riportarle qui.

Descrizioni dei pacchetti
All'interno di Launchpad è possibile tradurre anche le descrizioni dei pacchetti che possono comparire in programmi come synaptic, apt o Aggiungi/Rimuovi. Queste traduzioni sono divise principalmente in due gruppi: interne alla distribuzione ed esterne.
Le traduzioni interne alla distribuzione sono quelle relative al programma Aggiungi/Rimuovi, quelle esterne sono relative agli altri programmi.
Per tradurre le stringhe presenti in questi moduli valgono le stesse regole di traduzione adottate all'interno del Gruppo traduzione con alcune note:
- La prima iniziale delle stringhe va maiuscola, sempre
- Per le traduzioni relative ai giochi non è necessario usare lo stile impersonale
La traduzione delle descrizioni dei pacchetti non è individuale dato il grande numero di stringhe da tradurre.
