Previsioni di distribuzione di Edgy

Previsioni sulla distribuzione di Edgy Eft?. Non vi arrovellate più del necessario. La distribuzione di Edgy Eft avverrà, come previsto, in Ottobre c.a.., nella versione di Ubuntu 6.10. Il ciclo di sviluppo di Edgy Eft è dotato di grande rapidità, ci vorranno circa quattro mesi per il suo completamento. Vi consigliamo di controllare periodicamente il sito dedicato a Edgy:

''Dapper Backports'' è pronto per l'area Business

Il gruppo di lavoro Ubuntu Backports Team sta accettando ed evadendo le richieste per la repository di dapper backports per consentire l'uso di una versione più recente del pacchetto Edgy ricompilato per Dapper. Quanto sopra consente di mantenere Dapper in linea con gli aggiornamenti in attesa dell'uscita della versione successiva di Ubuntu. Backports è dedicato a tutti coloro che sono in attesa della nuova versione, in sostituzione di quella inviata con i CD che non verrà più aggiornata per altri sei mesi e che non desiderano avvalersi di distribuzioni instabili associate ai livelli di sviluppo.

Backports viene gestito in Launchpad alla voce dapper-backports, per consentire una completa integrazione con il resto di Ubuntu. Per inoltrare una richiesta backport basta aprire un gettone bug sul sito:

dettagliando la versione ed il pacchetto di cui fare il backport.

Appena inseriti, i nuovi pacchetti vengono aggiunti alla repository mentre la loro descrizione verrà curata dal gruppo di lavoro nella Newsletter settimanale di Ubuntu, come avviene attualmente per gli aggiornamenti relativi alla sicurezza.

Il Marketing Team ha trovato nuova linfa vitale nelle riunioni IRC, risolvendo tutte le problematiche organizzative.Tre progetti sono in fase di attuazione:

Nomina di "Artist in Chief"

Mark Shuttleworth ha nominato Frank Schoep (Ubuntu) and Ken Wimer (Kubuntu) nel nuovo ruolo di "Artists in Chief" in vista della nuova distribuzione di Edgy Eft.

I nominati AICs (Artists in Chief) hanno il potere di decidere l'aspetto grafico della nuova distribuzione relativamente ai temi:

Riunioni settimanali sulla programmazione

The weekly Dev Team IRC meetings resumed on Thursday after an off-line one was held last week in Paris.

The developers caught up on the status of the specifications ("specs") that were discussed in Paris. A large number are already drafted and approved, ready to be implemented. Some specs are still in the drafting phase, and these need to be completed and approved by next week's meeting if they are to be included in the tracked development pipeline for Edgy Eft.

Work has started on several implementations and the following specs are already implemented: optimized-live-cd-layout-for-faster-boot, ubuntu-meta-from-bzr, dash-as-bin-sh.

Ubuntu Dapper Installfest In Taiwan

We're pleased to inform you that the Ubuntu Taiwan community is having an Ubuntu installfest and release party in Taipei on July 4, 2006. It will be their first major event since the creation of the community web site one year ago.

They're excited and full of energy! The installfest will take place at [http://wiki.tossug.org/MixCoffee%26Tea Mix Coffee & Tea], a cafe with free wireless access.

If you're a newbie on Ubuntu or an Ubuntu power-user in Taiwan, bring your laptop with you and join 93 others who have signed up for the fun!

KDE 3.5.3 Enters Edgy

KDE 3.5.3 has started to enter Edgy. Initial versions of the Qt package were binary incompatible so make sure you've upgraded to the fixed Qt 3 3.3.6-2ubuntu2 and associated KDE versions.

Qt 4 was also updated to include all the safe patches from KDE's qt-copy.

There are still many KDE packages yet to be updated or merged, if you want to help sign yourself up to packages on

and ping Riddell on IRC to coordinate.

Kubuntu Developer Interviewed on Podcast

UbuntuOS launched their new extended Podcast with an interview with Kubuntu developer Jonathan Riddell talking about the plans for Kubuntu Edgy. The interview starts 1 hour 10 minutes in.

Summit di Parigi

Several Kubuntu and KDE developers were at the Ubuntu Developers Summit in Paris. A number of specifications were approved and more are being reviewed for approval. If you are interested in helping with more than packaging and bug fixing in Kubuntu take a look at some of the specs and see which you can help with.

Caratteristica della settimana - gLabels

[http://glabels.sourceforge.net/ gLabels] is a business card & label design program. If you've ever fiddled around in a spreadsheet or a graphics application trying to get labels or cards to exactly match a pre-cut sheet, you know how time-consuming & irritating it can be. gLabels has you covered - it's got hundreds of templates included, sorted mostly by [http://www.avery.com/ Avery's] product numbers, which even non-Avery products often refer to.

To install gLabels in Ubuntu: Applications->Add/Remove... then simply search for "glabel", or look for it under the Office category. gLabels is in the Universe repository, so you'll need to have the "Show unsupported applications" box checked in Add/Remove Applications.

You can do basic drawing & text work directly in gLabels, and import existing images for your labels or cards. gLabels can also do barcodes, should you need those, and it can merge existing data from a variety of other sources - useful for the semi-automated production of mailing address labels, for example.

If the massive list of included templates still doesn't have what you need, gLabels has a very nice template-making wizard included so you can create your own templates very easily. One drawback is that there's no easy way to edit existing templates, although if you're feeling adventurous they're all fairly simple XML files that could be hand-edited in your favorite text editor.
