Che dire... Vorrei far conoscere al mondo intero il vero volto di FCM Italia. Ma è praticamente impossibile in poche righe, tantomeno a chi che non segue i nostri dibattiti. Un gruppo di persone unite, affiatate, coerenti, forti, fiduciosi gli uni degli altri, simpatici, dediti al lavoro di gruppo, sempre pronti a nuove sfide. Aiutare nel coordinamento di questo fantastico gruppo è stato per me motivo di crescita personale, di valutazione delle capacità personali e del gruppo. Insomma, io ho donato un poco del mio tempo a questo gruppo ma posso affermare di aver ricevuto indietro tutto quello che ho donato moltiplicato per mille. What about ... I would like to introduce to the world the true face of FCM Italy. But it is almost impossible in a few lines, even less to those who do not follow our debates. A group of people united, close-knit, coherent, strong, trusting each other, friendly, devoted to teamwork, always ready for new challenges. Help in coordinating this amazing group has been for me a personal growth, assessment of personal skills and of the group skills. Tutto è cominciato alcuni anni fa, quando decisi di iniziare a tradurre, insieme ad un amico, la rivista inglese FCM, accettando di creare il gruppo di traduzione italiano sul wiki internazionale di Ubuntu. Dopo l’uscita dei primi tre numeri tradotti, abbiamo ricevuto l’invito a portare questo progetto all’interno della Comunità italiana di Ubuntu-it, creando di fatto il ‘gruppo FCM’. Da quel momento la traduzione dei numeri della rivista è notevolmente migliorata grazie al significativo apporto di tutti gli amici che hanno fatto parte di questo gruppo. Qui sono nati tutti gli accorgimenti, le tecniche e i metodi usati ancora oggi per tradurre, revisionare ed impaginare questo bellissimo mensile. Il resto di quanto è stato fatto è... storia!

Some years ago, along with a friend, I decided to start the translation of the FCM International magazine "Full Circle" and created a group of Italian translators on the Ubuntu Wiki. After the release of the first three numbers translated, we received an invitation to bring this project within the Italian LoCo Team, creating the 'FCM Group'. Since then, the translation of the magazine has greatly improved thanks to the significant contribution of all the friends who have been part of this group. Here all the tricks, techniques and methods used today to translate, revise and reformat this beautiful magazine were born. The rest of what has been done is ... history! Sono un fan di FCM fin dalla sua prima apparizione. Quindi l’ho raccomandato a chiunque (amici o parenti) sono riuscito a convingere a provare Ubuntu. Un mio amico, al quale avevo installato Ubuntu 11.04, mi disse: “Tutto quello che sto leggento su FCM è interessante, ma completamente diverso da quanto è installato sul mio PC” (l’ultimo numero di FCM tradotto in italiano era il 39, più o meno). Stava provando la 11.04 ma leggeva della 10.04. Ciò mi spinse a unirmi al gruppo di traduttori italiani di FCM (un grande gruppo) per evitare che qualcun’altro potesse nuovamente dire le stesse cose che il mio amico aveva detto.

I’m a FCM fan since its first appears. So, I’ve recommended it to each one (friends or relatives) that I successfully persuaded to trying Ubuntu. A friends of mine, who I’ve installed Ubuntu 11.04, said me: “All I’m reading on FCM is interesting, but completely different from that is installed on my PC” (the last FCM translated in Italian was the #39, more or less). He was having experience with 11.04 but he was reading about 10.04. That circumstance pushed me to join the Italian FCM translation team (a great team) to avoid that someone could again tell whatever my friend’s told. Fabrizio Nicastro (bifslacko)

Sono membro del gruppo di traduzione italiano solo da qualche mese, quando ho finalmente deciso di contribuire alla comunità Ubuntu in qualche maniera. Leggevo FCM su consiglio di un mio amico, ma mi lamentavo spesso dei traduttori e del fatto che le traduzioni in italiano venivano rilasciate veramente a rilento. Un giorno mi sono detto "Perchè non diventare membro e aiutarli?" e così in pochi giorni ho iniziato a tradurre. È bastato poco per ambientarmi in un ambiente accogliente con tanta gente volenterosa e preparata. Guardandomi indietro, sono contento di essere diventato parte del gruppo appena in tempo per lo sprint che ci ha allineato ai rilasci internazionale. Adesso con lo sprint che è giunto a termine credo che le mie giornate saranno un po' più vuote. Comunque sia, ragazzi, io penso che gente come questa sia un toccasana per lo spirito di Ubuntu e la filosofia FOSS.

I'm a member of the translation italian team since few months ago, when i finally decided to contribute to the Ubuntu Community in some way. I've started reading FCM on a friend of mine recommendation, but I often complain about the italian translators because our releases were spit out really slowly. Then I said "Why not become a member and help them?" and in a few days I've started to translate for FCM Italy. It didn't take a long time to settle into a so friendly atmosphere like this, made of many willing and competent people. Looking back I'm glad to have become a member just in time for the final sprint that has aligned us with International releases. Now, with the sprint has come to an end, I think my days will be a little more empty. Anyway, guys, I think people like this are good for the spirit of Ubuntu and FOSS philosophy. Ho sempre letto con molto piacere ogni edizione di FCM, così che pochi mesi fa ho deciso di unirmi al gruppo di traduzione italiano. Credo che, oltre al fatto che la rivista è ottima, FCM Italia sia un insieme di persone veramente fantastiche, con le quali si lavora benissimo, ma con le quali è anche un piacere parlare e scherzare e distogliersi un po' dalla noia delle proprie giornate. I always read every issue of FCM with great pleasure, so that a few months ago I decided to join the group of Italian translation. Ho iniziato a contribuire alla traduzione di FCM in italiano qualche anno fa, perché pensavo fosse una buona idea, e volevo che anche gli Italiani ci potessero trovare qualcosa di interesssante. Adesso do il mio piccolo contribuito, gli altri stanno facendo un lavoro molto buono, e FCM è ora migliore che mai.

I started contributing the FCM italian translation some years ago, because I thinked it was a good idea, and I wished Italian people could find some interesting stuff in it. Ho iniziato a collaborare dal numero 37 (anche se leggevo FCM da prima). Il motivo all'inizio era tenere allenato il mio inglese, testare e imparare nuove cose, facendo qualcosa di buono, da regalare a sé stessi e alla gente, collaborare a un progetto condiviso. FCM è un grande esempio di quanto è fantastico che la gente possa profondamente sviluppare insieme un progetto gratuito in modo professionale. I have started to collaborate since #37 (even if I read it before). At first the reason was keeping trained my english, testing and learning new things, doing something good, a present to give me and to people, to collaborate on a shared project. FCM is a great example how much fantastic is people could deeply and professionally develop together a project for free. Today the FCM italian group is become my next degree thesis. Tradurre la rivista è il modo di dire grazie al gruppo di lavoro di FCM, il vostro lavoro sarà apprezzato anche da persone che parlano una lingua diversa. Colmare il divario era allo stesso tempo una necessità e una scommessa, dato che nessuno ama leggere articoli superati. La scommessa è stata vinta, ora non resta che tenere il ritmo.

Translate the magazine is my way of saying thanks to FCM team, your work will be appreciated even from people speaking different language. Ricordo ancora molto bene quando nel 2007 fui coinvolto nelle attività del gruppo FCM. Da allora non ho mai smesso di collaborare per la rivista, avendo in mente solo la diffusione della cultura del Software libero. Ma quello che ancora oggi mi stupisce è che non so se abbia ricevuto più il gruppo da me o se invece sia stato io a ricevere tantissimo dal gruppo. Ad ogni modo: grazie, Gruppo FCM!

I still remember very well when in 2007 I was involved in the activities of the “Gruppo FCM”. Since then I never stopped working for the magazine, having in mind only the spread of the culture of free software. A volte può essere difficile abbandonare i comodi lidi del software proprietario per tuffarsi nel mondo del software libero: io mi sono deciso circa tre anni fa, passando ad Ubuntu per poi diventarne un accanito sostenitore di questo sistema con all’attivo almeno 5 proseliti! E, una volta dentro, il passo logico successivo non poteva essere che dare il mio contributo in qualche modo: non capendo nulla di computer e programmazione, la scelta è stata facile... unirmi al fantastico gruppo di traduzione di FCM! E la mia soddisfazione è sapere che, se oggi si è raggiunto questo traguardo, il merito è, seppure in piccolissima parte, anche mio!

Sometimes it can be difficult to leave the comfortable land of proprietary software to jump in the world of free software: I made up my mind about three years ago, switchin’ to Ubuntu just to become a great admirer of this OS with five recruits at least as assets! And, once I was in, the next logical step couldn’t be nothing but give, in some way, my contribution: and since I don’t know anything about computer or programming, the choice was simple... Quando per la prima volta si iniziò a parlare di uno sprint per recuperare il terreno perduto mi venne in mente una frase detta da W. Churchill:

Ovviamente il percorso non è stato semplice ma con la grande dedizione di tutti i membri del gruppo di cui mi onoro far parte finalmente abbiamo colto la nostra occasione.

Sono un utente abbastanza recente del mondo Linux e dopo svariati tentativi con diverse distribuzioni, in Ubuntu ho trovato una più che valida alternativa al mondo Microsoft. Quello che mi ha colpito di più della Comunità è la filosofia che ci sta alla base. Non solo quella di freeware ma anche di condivisione. Qualche tempo fa’ ho scoperto la rivista Full Circle Magazine notando che le traduzioni erano molto indietro rispetto alle pubblicazioni inglesi così ho deciso di farmi avanti e dare anche io un contributo alla Comunità di Ubuntu dando una mano con le traduzioni con la speranza che sempre più persone possano scoprire e conoscere le immense potenzialità che il mondo Linux e freeware in genere, possono offrire. Che dire del Gruppo FCM Italia. Sono superfiero di farne parte perchè esiste un clima così bello da farlo assomigliare ad una vera grande famiglia!

I am a Linux’s new user and after several experience with different distro, I found in Ubuntu, more than a valuable alternative to the Microsoft’s world. What does the Community impress me so? The philosophy on which is based on! Not only the Freeware one but also the Sharing value. A few time ago I discovered the Full Circle Magazine and I noticed that the Italian Translations were behind respect of English issues. So I decided to give a helping hand with translations and give a contribution to the Community me too, hoping so that more and more people have the opportunity of discovering and getting knowledge of huge Linux and Freeware’s capability. I am happy to join this wonderful group where everyone is willing to help. This sprint, we set this goal, was the driving force that led us to be even more compact, more rehearsed, which (me first) did not perceive. E' innegabile: nonostante i passi avanti fatti negli ultimi anni, il mondo del software libero è ancora semi-sconosciuto a molte delle persone che utilizzano un pc. Tanti continuano ad utilizzare software proprietario non per scelta, ma per mancanza di informazione. Nel mio piccolo, ho convertito a Ubuntu la mia famiglia e quella della mia ragazza e lo trovo un primo passo, soprattutto per dimostrare che le novità possono essere assorbite bene anche all'interno di contesti tradizionali. Fare parte del gruppo di traduzione di FCM mi è sembrato un ottimo modo di mettere le mie capacità al servizio di un obiettivo comune. Sono un ragazzo che da molto tempo usa Linux (Ubuntu).. Sinceramente è poco conosciuto da noi italiani, nessuno conosce la parola open-source.. Ho provato a convertire tutte le scuole, soprattutto la mia (ITIS) verso Ubuntu perchè è un sistema operativo speciale, gratuito, sempre aggiornato e non ha bisogno di antivirus... E’ completamente SICURO senza aver paura di qualsiasi intrusione...Ma queste scuole a quanto pare non hanno voluto credermi.. Dopo aver usato ubuntu un giorno mi chiesi: “Ma perchè non aiutare la comunità italiana di ubuntu?” Fu così che iniziai quasi per scherzo.. Iniziai col gruppo Ubuntu-it-test... Mi accolsero a braccia aperte e poi mi basai su Ubuntu-it-promozione... Per motivi di salute, fui costretto ad assentarmi più volte per lunghi periodi, ma al ritorno sempre a braccia aperte mi hanno accolto (da invidiare, dalle altre parti queste cose te le potevi sognare! :D) Ora invece mi trovo anche su Ubuntu-it-fcm. Mi son integrato subito, ambiente davvero accogliente e tutti simpatici! Insieme facciamo un bel lavoro e sono fiero di poter dare anche il mio piccolo contributo! Good Job Guys! Ho conosciuto FCM per un articolo di una rivista specializzata in informatica, ho aperto il mio browser per vedere il sitoweb di Ubuntu, dopodiché navigando nelle pagine del sito, ho scoperto questo progetto FCM. Inoltre sono un fan dei software opensource e freeware il quale mi piace testare i software per trovare gli eventuali problemi, inoltre mi piace far migliorare la qualità delle traduzioni in italiano dall’inglese di questi. Sono entrato a far parte di FCM italia per revisionare gli articoli del magazine rendendoli più professionali ma anche non presentando ai nostri lettori eventuali refusi.

I have known FCM for an article in a magazine specializing in computer, I opened my browser to see the WebSite of the Ubuntu, after browsing the pages of the site, I found this project FCM. Also I am a fan of open source software and freeware whom I liked to test software to find any problems, I like to improve the quality of translations from English into Italian language. Cosa posso dire di particolare, dato che sono da poco iscritto a questo fantastico Gruppo? Li ho sempre seguiti dall’esterno e il loro stupendo e preciso lavoro ha fatto si che mi scattasse la molla come per dire: voglio esserci anchio con loro!!......e mi sono subito iscritto nel gruppo! Partecipo attivamente nel gruppo-test, ma voglio dare un mio contributo nelle mie possibilità anche quì, perchè la Comunità di Ubuntu se lo merita ed altresì anche questi ragazzi! What can I say special, if i’m have recently joined this great group? I have always followed them outside and the beautiful and precise work has made me take the spring as if to say: I want to be with them!!.....and I immediately enrolled in the group! I actively participate in the group-test, but i want to give my contribution in my ability even here, because the Ubuntu Community also deserves it and these guys too! Tutto è cominciato con Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft ed è finito col travolgermi in poco tempo... Cavolo sono passati 5 anni! Cercavo un SO da usare al posto di Windows, e sono stato introdotto al mondo Linux da un mio amico, anch'egli parte di FCM. Da qui, prendendoci gusto, la voglia di collaborare e condividere la filosofia Ubuntu; ma ahimé non sono un programmatore, quindi l'unica possibilità era lavorare come traduttore, un buon modo per tenermi allenato e ricambiare in qualche modo la disponibilità della comunità! Così quello stesso amico mi ha fatto conoscere FCM, ed ecco come è entrato a far parte della mia vita. Non abbiamo saltato un numero, ma come succede ai volontari ad un certo punto abbiamo cominciato ad arretrarci, ed era frustrante tradurre articoli riguardanti programmi che magari, nemmeno c'erano più! Ma molte storie hanno un lieto fine, e la schiera dei supereroi di FCM, infarcita di nuove leve, ce l'ha fatta!

My personal “FCM story” started at the very moment when I began to use Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft, and it overwhelmed me in few time... wow, 5 years already passed! I was looking for a OS I wanted to use instead of Windows, and a friend of mine (that already collaborated with FCM), introduced to me Ubuntu and the Ubuntu-it community. Since then, as it delighted me, my desire to collaborate and share the Ubuntu Philosophy grew up; but alas! I'm not a programmer, so the only way to collaborate was working as a translator for a review or something similar, a good way to keep my english trained and return back my willingness to the community! The same friend of mine then introduced to me this group: and here is FCM in my life. We translated all the issues, but as happens to volounteers we started to withdrew and it was frustrating sometime to translate articles talking about softwares whose development was already stopped! But many stories have an happy ending, and the superheroes of FCM, helped by new vital forces, reached their goal! Marco Letizia (aka letissier85)

Sono passati ormai più di 2 anni dal momento in cui sono entrato nel gruppo italiano di traduzione di FCM. In quei giorni stavo iniziando la mia migrazione ad Ubuntu, volevo quindi contribuire alla comunità e allenare il mio inglese. La mia esperienza è stata eccezionale, le persone del gruppo sono fantastiche e, in questi anni, sempre più persone ci hanno raggiunto. Sono fiero di essere parte di questo gruppo, che è stato in grado di raggiungere un grande obiettivo: tradurre, ad oggi, tutte le edizioni. It has been more than 2 years now since the time I entered in the FCM Italian team. At that time I was starting my migration to Ubuntu and I wanted to contribute to the community and keep practising my English. My experience was great, people are awesome and during these years more and more people joined us. I’m proud of being part of this group, which was able to reach a great goal: translate all the issues so far. I would like to thank my fellow translators, and wish good luck. We rock guys!

La mia collaborazione con il gruppo italiano di FCM è cominciata circa un anno e mezzo fa (aprile 2010) ed è stata senza dubbio l'esperienza che mi ha fatto decidere di passare definitivamente a Ubuntu, abbandonando una volta per tutte quell'altro OS. Non avendo uno skill informatico, spesso mi sono trovato in dubbio a decidere di passare a Linux, ma la comunità di Ubuntu mi è stata di grandissimo aiuto in questo, e così un bel giorno ho deciso di fare il grande salto. Così, visto che avevo ricevuto moltissimo aiuto dagli altri membri della comunità ho deciso che avrei dovuto contraccambiare, e navigando per l'immensa comunità italiana di Ubuntu mi sono imbattuto nel gruppo FCM. Prima di allora non avevo mai sentito nominare Full Circle Magazine, così ho scaricato qualche numero e me ne sono subito innamorato, e ho deciso di voler dare anch'io un piccolo aiuto al preziosissimo lavoro di traduzione della rivista. È così che ho conosciuto questo fantastico gruppo di persone entusiaste e sempre piene di nuove idee, che hanno reso il gruppo FCM italiano il primo a livello di uscite. Amo questo gruppo, non lo lascerò mai.

My collaboration with the italian FCM group started about a year and an half ago (april 2010) and it was, doubtless, the experience that made me decide to definitively switch to Ubuntu, leaving once and for all that other OS. Because I've not an informatic skill, I've always had some doubt in order to definitively switch to Linux, but the Ubuntu community was very usefull for me, and so one day I deicided to do the 'big jump'. So, consedering that I've received a lot from the other members of the community, I decided that I would have to repay, and browsing the huge Italian Ubuntu community I came across the FCM group. I've never heard about Full Circle Magazine before then, so I've downloaded some issues and I fell in love immediately, and I decided that I also wanted to give my little help to this precious work, that is the magazine translation. That's how I met this wonderful group of people who are enthusiastic and always full of new ideas, who have made the FCM Italian group the first in the world (and I'm very proud about this). I love this group, and I'll neve leave it. “But...there's one more thing” (quote): FCM Italia ROCKS! (as someone in our group is used to say)
