= Upgrading from a Torrent =
If you're familiar with [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol)|torrents]] and have an ISP that doesn't limit them, you can download the upgrade much more quickly. You'll also be sharing your bandwidth with other Ubuntu users and helping to reduce the load on the servers, which is especially beneficial on release days when the server overload causes problems.

Just visit http://releases.ubuntu.com/maverick/, and download the appropriate torrent file for the '''alternate''' installation CD, found in the list towards the bottom of the page. (It will have a filename like ''ubuntu-11.04-alternate-i386.iso.torrent''.) Introduzione

Questo documento fornisce istruzioni e annotazioni sull'avanzamento a Ubuntu 11.04, rilasciato il 30 aprile 2011.

Prima di cominciare

  • È possibile effettuare un avanzamento diretto a Ubuntu 11.04 partendo da Ubuntu 10.10 o da Ubuntu 10.04 LTS; per maggiori informazioni consultare le note di avanzamento.

  • Assicurarsi di aver applicato tutti gli aggiornamenti prima di effettuare l'avanzamento.

  • Prima di procede con l'avanzamento è consigliato leggere le note di rilascio; tale documento fornisce avvertimenti e soluzioni per i problemi noti di questa versione.

Se si dispone di una versione inferiore di Ubuntu 10.10, consultare le note di avanzamento per conoscerne le modalità.

Aggiornare da 10.04 e 10.10 a 11.04

Avanzamento via rete per sistemi desktop Ubuntu (raccomandato)

L'avanzamento attraverso la rete risulta semplice seguendo la seguente procedura.

In Ubuntu 10.04 LTS:

  1. Scegliere Sistema → Amministrazione → Sorgenti software

  2. In «Aggiornamenti» scegliere «Rilasci normali» alla voce «Avanzamento del rilascio»

  3. Fare clic su «Chiudi»

  4. Premere Alt-F2 e digitare update-manager

In Ubuntu 10.10:

  1. Scegliere Sistema → Amministrazione → Sorgenti software

  2. In «Aggiornamenti» scegliere «Rilasci normali» alla voce «Avanzamento del rilascio»

  3. Fare clic su «Chiudi»

  4. In Sorgenti software

  5. Scegliere Sistema → Amministrazione → Gestore aggiornamenti

  6. Fare clic su «Verifica» per controllare la disponibilità di nuovi aggiornamenti.

  7. Se degli aggiornamenti sono disponibili, fare clic su Installa aggiornamenti per installarli, quindi fare di nuovo clic su Verifica.

  8. Un messaggio informerà della presenza di una nuova release.

  9. Fare clic su Esegui aggiornamento'.

  10. Seguire le istruzioni a schermo

Avanzamento via rete per sistemi desktop Kubuntu (raccomandato)

NOTA DA RIVEDERE L'INTERO PARAGRAFO

L'avanzamento diretto a Kubuntu 11.04 è supportato solo dalla versione 10.04 di Kubuntu:

Avanzamento via rete per sistemi server Ubuntu (raccomandato)

  1. Installare il pacchetto update-manager-core, se non è già installato, con il seguente comando: 

    sudo apt-get install update-manager-core

  2. Modificare con i privilegi di amministrazione nel file /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades la seguente riga: 

    Prompt=lts

    sostituendo la dicitura «lts», o qualsiasi altro valore trovato, in «normal». Ecco un esempio: 

    Prompt=normal

  3. Avviare lo strumento di avanzamento con il seguente comando: 

    sudo do-release-upgrade
  4. Seguire le istruzioni a schermo

Avanzamento usando il CD/DVD alternate

Seguire queste istruzioni se il sistema da aggiornare non è connesso a Internet.

  1. Scaricare sulla Scrivania l'immagine del CD di installazione alternate e masterizzarla su un CD vuoto

  2. Inserire il disco nell'unità CD-ROM; in alternativa, se l'immagine del CD risiede sul computer che si desidera aggiornare, è possibile montare il file .iso con un comando simile al seguente: 

    sudo mkdir -p /media/cdrom && sudo mount -o loop ~/Scrivania/ubuntu-10.10-alternate-i386.iso /media/cdrom0
  3. Viene mostrato un dialogo che consente di effettuare l'avanzamento del sistema utilizzando il CD
  4. Seguire le istruzioni a schermo

Se non viene mostrato alcun dialogo, è possibile eseguire il seguente comando usando Alt + F2: 

gksu "sh /media/cdrom/cdromupgrade"

Se si utilizza Kubuntu, sostituire il comando indicato precedentemente con il seguente: 

kdesudo "sh /media/cdrom/cdromupgrade"

Avanzamento usando un file Torrent

Se si conoscono i file torrent ed è possibile scaricarli liberamente, è possibile scaricare l'avanzamento molto più velocemente, condividendo la banda con altri utenti Ubuntu e aiutando a ridurre il carico sui server, molto utile nel giorno del rilascio e nei giorni successivi. Procedere come segue:

  1. Scaricare il file ISO della versione alternate usando il file .torrent dalla pagina: Natty Narwhal Torrent

  2. Montare il file ISO o masterizzarlo su CD

  3. Seguire le istruzioni relative alla versione alternate

Piccoli accorgimenti prima dell'avanzamento

Prima di procedere con l'avanzamento di versione, è consigliabile effettuare queste semplici operazioni ove necessario:

  • Installare il pacchetto ubuntu-desktop (o kubuntu-desktop, xubuntu-desktop, edubuntu-desktop, edubuntu-desktop-kde, a seconda della versione in uso); nel caso fosse già installato, non è richiesta alcuna operazione aggiuntiva su tale pacchetto.

  • Eliminare dal file /etc/apt/sources.list eventuali repository di terze parti e procedere alla rimozione integrale del software da loro fornito.

  • Pulire il sistema da tutti i file non più utili per liberare ulteriore spazio.
