We all have lots of things to do, ideas that float through our minds everyday and random other stuff that we need to jot down so that we don't forget. There have been various apps around like sticky notes and others that can do the job but they are not always very feature full and are a bit out-dated. Tomboy is an excellent little app that can sit on your GNOME panel that allows you to take notes just like sticky notes but it can do a lot more as well. Fin dal nostro primo numero, la settimana scorsa, abbiamo ricevuto una gran quantità di buone idee e suggerimenti su come migliorare l'UWN e aumentare la sua utilità per i nostri lettori. Uno dei suggerimenti che abbiamo ricevuto è di scrivere la caratteristica degli articoli della settimana (sia per Dapper che per Edgy) in modo da introdurre i lettori alle caratteristiche di Ubuntu di cui non si sono accorti o per imparare uno o due trucchetti sulle applicazioni che usano già e che amano maggiormente. Lo sviluppo di Edgy è cominciato

Il 7 giugno gli sviluppatori di Ubuntu hanno iniziato l'inserimento di nuovi programmi nel nuovo repository di edgy. I programmatori Jeff Bailey, Scott James Remnant, Matthias Klose and Adam Conrad hanno iniziato lo spostamento dei nuovi tool di sviluppo ("Toolchain") (gcc 4.1, etc...). Il ciclo di programmazione di edgy è molto stimolante, quindi rimanete in contatto con le notizie che la riguardano. Edgy is all about new and exciting things and there will be lots of new development work going on. So now is the time to begin maintaining packages in bzr! See this announcement made by Scott James Remnant for more information on how to get started:

Comprare un Computer con Ubuntu preinstallato

  • L'acquisto di un computer con pre-installato software libero non controllato da altro software pre-installato è il nocciolo della questione e della competizione in atto. Ogni competizione che parta con l'installazione manuale di componenti controllate da software pre-installato è sleale.

"The real competition between free and non-free software will come the day that normal people will be able to buy a computer with a free operative system inside as easily as it is to buy a computer with a non-free operative system. Any competition starting with a manual installation on a hard drive controlled by an automatically pre-installed system is unfair.

Dapper Point Release Updates

  • Collins Watson - dichiara: "Al momento della stesura del presente notiziario, ad una settimana dalla presentazione di Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, abbiamo ricevuto una montagna di richieste di sanare bugs d'installazione. (Non è una cosa che ci sorprende, in quanto la distribuzione è completamente orientata all'utente, s'interfaccia con l'utente). Una parte dell'assistenza post-distribuzione è orientata alla correzione dei bugs riscontrarti dagli utenti al momento dell'installazione.".

"At the time of this writing a week after the release of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, several installer issues have already arisen which are known to affect many users and which generate enormous numbers of bug reports. (This is not too surprising since we released a completely new installer frontend.) Part of long-term support for this release should include a means to correct installer bugs, which involves re-rolling CD images." - Collin Watson

Archivi proposti

  • E' disponibile una nuova serie di pacchetti all'indirizzo archive.ubuntu.com per consentire l'inserimento di aggiornamenti, di risoluzione di bugs e loro controllo (dedicato a coloro che godono deiprivilegi d'accesso, propedeutici alla pubblicazione ufficiale della distribuzione. Quanto sopra per offrire un prodotto privo di difetti e continuamente controllato. Ogni distribuzione ha una directory dedicata, -proposed:
    • edgy-proposed
    • dapper-proposed
    • etc...

A new set of package archives has been added to archive.ubuntu.com to allow proposed updates and fixes to be uploaded and tested (by those with the archive enabled) before the packages are officially released. This process will allow for the proposed updates to see wider testing helping improve the quality of the updates. Every release in the archive now has a -proposed directory which looks like:

  • edgy-proposed
  • dapper-proposed
  • etc...

Although these do not contain any packages at the moment, if you help test Ubuntu, you will want to keep an eye on these.

    • Siamo tutti molto impegnati, idee che si affollano, impegni, scadenze da non dimenticare. Molte sono le applicazioni dedicate all'organizzazione di eventi, spesso inadeguate e sorpassate. Tomboy è un'ottima piccola applicazione che si integra con il desktop in ambiente GNOME, che consente di prendere appunti, catalogarli, rintracciarli tra quelli già inseriti e molto ancora.

  • Tomboy usa lo stile Wiki per la gestione degli appunti, creando i collegamenti necessari tra le varie istanze. Tomboy prepara anche un indice degli appunti, consentendone la ricerca per argomenti e per singole parole, e si usa Beagle, la ricerca può essere combinata. Sono disponibili plug-ins per implementare le funzionalità offerte dal programma. Alcuni plug-ins sono installati per default per consentire la stampa degli appunti, la loro esportazione in codice HTML. Con Tomboy si possono applicare colori diversi agli appunti, ai caratteri, si possono formattare gli appunti medesimi. Tutto questo rappresenta un'evoluzione dei vecchi foglietti autoadesivi.

Tomboy uses a wiki style of managing notes allowing you to link to other notes creating a web of interrelations between all of your various notes and ideas. Tomboy keeps a table of contents of all of your notes, allows you to search through your notes, performs spell checking, and if you use Beagle for searching your desktop Beagle can search through your notes as well. There are also plugins available for Tomboy to extend its functionality. There are a few default plugins already installed that allow you to print your notes or export them to HTML. Tomboy even allows you to format your notes in a variety of ways such as font sizes, colors and more. This is a big step up from those plain old sticky notes.

  • L'installazione di Tomboy è immediata:

    • 1-Dopo l'installazione il programma va lanciato da Applicazioni--->Accessori-->Tomboy Notes.

    • 2-Per avere a disposizione Tomboy sul pannello di GNOME, bisogna cliccare con il tasto destro del mouse sul pannello medesimo, scegliere l'opzione Aggiungi, scegliere Tomboy Notes, cliccare su Aggiungi.

  • L'uso di Tomboy è immediato ed è di grande aiuto per l'organizzazione degli appunti e delle idee.

If you would like to try out Tomboy go ahead and install the package "tomboy". You can launch it from Applications -> Accessories -> Tomboy Notes. If you would like Tomboy to live on your GNOME panel permanently you can right click on your panel, select "Add To Panel...", select "Tomboy Notes" and click "Add". Tomboy is very easy to use and can really help you organize your tasks and ideas.
