Come detto precedentemente, Firefox 2.0 è stato rilasciato ed è incluso nell'ultima versione di Ubuntu, 6.10. Ubuntu 6.10 è la prima distribuzione in cui viene integrato, dopo le trattative con Mozilla che hanno permesso ad Ubuntu di continuare ad usare il nome ed il marchio ufficiale.

Novità su Launchpad
Christian Reis ci ha fornito un aggiornamento piacevole e completo di Launchpad.
Questa è stata una grande uscita di Launchpad -- ci sono cosi tanti cambiamenti fantastici che dovrò riepilogare i punti più importanti; sicuro di leggere il dettagliato changelog perchè contiene molte ghiottonerie interessanti che non possono essere inserite qui!
Si può usare Launchpad anche per tracciare le specifiche
Vorrei cominciare precisando una caratteristica di Launchpad di cui gli utenti non possono essere familairi. La maggior parte delle persone già sa che Launchpad ospita un sistema di tracciamento dei bug e un'interfaccia web di traduzione; sai che offriamo anche un sistema completo di gestione delle specifiche?
IL tracciatore di specifiche di Launchpad permette di tenere traccia dei matadati collegati ad un documento: che prodotto o distribuzione riguarda la specifica, chi è il proponente, chi la sta implementando e qual'è lo stato attuale. Lo stesso documento può essere dovunque; per esempio, una specifica di Ubuntu che parla di X Accelerato si trova all'indirizzo (in inglese):
La pagina di Launchpad ha un riassunto della specifica, un grafico di dipendenza ed una pubblicazione dei metadati. L'attuale testo di specifiche si trova a:
Note that the specification text can be kept anywhere -- it's just a URL associated with the metadata. Any upstream product can register specifications and manage them through Launchpad. This system can be used to track any software-related text, ranging from implementation proposals (like the Python PEP process) to hardcore technical specifications.
Bazaar branching
James Henstridge publica in questa (RIVEDERE) rollout una bella caratteristica che ho sempre desiderato annunciare: è possibile usare gli URL di launchpad.net per verificare il software usando brz! To fetch the latest version of Bazaar itself, for instance, just issue:
bzr branch http://launchpad.net/products/bzr

On the Malone front, Bjorn landed a first change to the process of adding upstream bugwatches that will make a lot of users smile: you now register bug watches entering URLs instead of picking from a list of trackers and adding a bug id. This should make it a lot faster to register watches, and this is just a first step, because the next rollout will include more extensive bug forwarding improvements.
Brad fixed a long-standing bogosity in our subscription system: people implicitly subscribed (those that appear as Also Notified: in the subscriptions portlet) to duplicates are no longer implicitly subscribed to the main bug, and if you are receiving bugmail because of a duplicate subscription, you can unsubcribe anyway and Malone will just Do the Right Thing.

Altro funzionamento notevole: per la prima volta abbiamo abilitato la notifica di errori nella configurazione di Soyuz, ciò vuol dire che gli uploaders riceveranno una email quando il pacchetto che hanno mandato non è stato costruito.
