X.org breakage in 6.06

Questa settimana molti utenti hanno avuto problemi con l'aggiornamento ad X in ubuntu 6.06 che causava un blocco del sistema al riavvio dello stesso. Mark Shuttleworth ha anche scritto un ottimo [http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/54 post] sul suo blog riguardo il problema e sopratutto su come evitare che cose del genere non si ripetano in futuro.

Distribuzione Sprint

Il gruppo di distribuzione della Canonical ed un paio di comunità di programmatori hanno lavorato insieme per una settimana a Wiesbaden. Molto lavoro sull'elaborazione delle caratteristiche è stato affrontato dal momento in cui Edgy è in una situazione di “freeze”. BR Giovedì la ditta IT di “consulting” , CC GmBH, che utilizza Kubuntu, ci ha invitato nei suoi uffici dove ha preparato una cena Sud Africana nella sua impressionante struttura. La cena è stata commentata come “la migliore avuta nel corso delle nostre conferenze”.

Upstart in dettaglio

Scott James Remnant ha scoperto, questa settimana, il suo nuovo upstart [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReplacementInit init replacement]. Molto interessante, direte! Meglio osservare crescere il prato, non vi pare? Niente paura, Scott ha raccontato tutto in un suo lunghissimo blog: [http://www.netsplit.com/blog/work/canonical/upstart.html blog post], senza omettere ciò di cui ci si deve preoccupare, il disegno, quale upstart debba essere attivato e quale no initng/launchd/SMF/something else. L'upstart si trova attualmente in universe, ma come Scott spiega nel suo blog, l'upstart non può ancora rimpiazzare sysvinit; lo potra fare dal vivo in Edgy tra qualche settimana.

Aggiornamenti Ubuntu 6.06 LTS

Nuove Applicazioni in Edgy

Da non dimenticare le note per un'installazione rapida, abilitare le repository extra, il nome dei pacchetti, usare g-a-i dove fosse necessario...etc....

Fotografia Digitale

• dcraw è stato aggiornato alla versione 8.31 per abilitare il supporto dei file RAW delle fotocamere digitali.
• UFRaw è stato aggiornato alla versione 0.9.1.

Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Updates

There were three updates to X.org this week, backporting various patches as well as dealing with the breakage mentioned above.

Yaboot was also updated, to fix booting with XFS.

There were also a whole lot of backports, as mentioned above.

New Apps In Edgy

Matthew Garret uploaded a new version of X.org this week, which enables compositing by default. Quinn Storm, of compiz.net, has also begun working with the Ubuntu team to work on compiz in the Ubuntu repos.

Oliver Grawert has uploaded a new version of ltfsd, which enables local device support, otherwise known as being able to plug a usb stick into the thin client and have it show up on your desktop. Ubuntu's LTSP has also been updated to use this new code.

Brandon Holtsclaw uploaded Amarok 1.4.2, which adds DAAP support, MTP media devices (devices that are part of Microsoft's PlaysForSure use this, including players from Creative and others), custom last.fm stations and more.

Hubert Figuiere has uploaded two digital photography apps, dcraw, which has been updated to 8.31 to improve the camera RAW file support with new cameras and UFRaw has been updated to 0.9.1.

Kubuntu

Kubuntu Edgy has seen some great new things this week, including new artwork, systems tools and more.

Nuovo Artwork

Ken Wimer l'artista responsabile di Kubuntu Edgy è impegnato nello sviluppo del progetto per un nuovo disegno artistico. Il tema 02 ha una tonalità molto gradevole.

Impostazioni di Sistema

Simon Edwards ha riorganizzato la stesura delle Impostazioni di Sistema basandola sull'idea Usability Ellen.

Power Management Applet

Il pacchetto guida kde-guidance possiede una nuova applet per la gestione del power management in Edgy. Quanto sopra sostituisce il klaptopdaemon usato nelle precedenti versioni di Kubuntu. Sperimentatelo, rendendoci partecipi delle vostre impressioni.

Un nuovo disegno artistico è tra breve in arrivo.

HWDB Client

E' stata aggiunta una nuova versione KDE del client HWDB. Il programma trasferisce al nostro database situato nella pagina: http://hwdb.ubuntu.com informazioni anonime provenienti dal vostro computer che verranno usate per la creazione di liste di anomalie utili per sapere di più sul nostro hardware.

• ”In genere il Server Ubuntu ha una piattaforma protetta. IL Gruppo Sicurezza di Ubuntu, che produce tutti gli aggiornamenti ufficiali di sicurezza, ha un positivo riscontro dalle ditte coinvolte. Ubuntu viene fornito con una politica di chiusura delle porte, il che vuol dire che dopo l'installazione, sia dell'ambiente Desktop che Server, nessuna applicazione accetta per default, una richiesta di connessione dall'esterno o da Internet. Feature Of The Week - Thunar File Manager

Thunar is the new lean and fast Xfce file manager. The first stable release will be included in Xfce 4.4.0 but it is available, in beta form, in Xubuntu 6.06. To install Thunar on any other flavour of Ubuntu, you can install it from Applications > Add/Remove and select it from the applications listed in the System Tools section. Of course, you can also enter sudo apt-get install thunar in your terminal and install it as well. Visit http://thunar.xfce.org/index.html for updates, screenshots, a feature list, and information about ways you can contribute to the project.
