Introduzione
Ubuntu One è il servizio di archiviazione, sincronizzazione e condivisione offerto da Canonical e installato in via predefinita su Ubuntu.
Ciò che lo differenzia da tutti gli altri servizi di archiviazione è la possibilità di sincronizzare i contatti di Evolution, le note di Tomboy, i segnalibri di Firefox e la sua integrazione con svariati lettori multimediali. Tutti i dati vengono archiviati online su uno spazio cloud in modo che possano essere accessibili attraverso un browser web da un qualsiasi computer visitando il sito di Ubuntu One.
Ubuntu One fornisce gratuitamente aglu utenti 2 GB di spazio di archiviazione. È possibile, attraverso un abbonamento mensile, disporre di più spazio e utilizzare la sincronizzazione sui telefoni cellulari.
L'applicazione (per alcuni aspetti) potrebbe differire tra la versione presente in Ubuntu 10.04 e 10.10. Uno di questi casi consiste nel suo posizionamento del menù contestuale accessibile con il tasto destro del mouse. In 10.04 è accessibile direttamente alla pressione del tasto destro, in 10.10 è invece presente un sottomenù denominato Ubuntu One. Altre differenze se presenti verranno segnalate nel proseguo della guida.
