Lo scopo di testare le immagini ISO prima del loro rilascio è quello trovare errori prima che venga creata l'immagine ISO dei Cd usate per una più ampia distribuzione e spettro di testing.

Istruzioni

Occorrente

• Un computer usabile per fare test oppure un hard disk supplementare. (Una macchina virtuale è usabile per fare test ma vorremmo vedere più test condotti su hardware reali e non emulati)
• Una moderata conoscenza di Ubuntu in modo da poter recuperare informazioni rilevanti come log per segnalare malfunzionamenti in maniera appropriata. Oppure molta voglia di imparare e disponibilità ad essere seguiti da qualcuno un po' più esperto di voi.
• Un po' di tempo libero e tanta passione per eseguire con regolarità i test.

Preparazione

• Se ancora non l'avete, occorre che vi creiate un account su [https://launchpad.net Launchpad] in modo che possiate segnalare i Bug. L'account vi permetterà di accedere anche ad altri sistemi, come il wiki di Ubuntu.com.

• Registrazione al test tracker all'indirizzo [http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/ iso.qa.ubuntu.com] che vi permette di segnalare i test che eseguite ed il loro esito. Se vi siete registrati sul sito [http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com Brainstorm] avete già quell'account.

• Selezionate nel Testing Tracker quale immagine ISO userete per i test e controllate i casi di test collegati. Se siete in dubbio su quale immagine scegliere e quale test fare chiedete in [http://liste.ubuntu-it.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/gruppo-test mailing list].

• Potete iscrivervi per i singoli test in ogni immagine ISO. Questo aiuta tutti a capire quali test vengono già svolti e da quante persone e permette di ricevere notifica per email quando ci sono nuove immagini da testare selezionando la casella di spunta come da figura seguente.

Scaricamento immagini

Le immagini ISO giornalieri sono disponibili su [http://cdimage.ubuntu.com cdimage.ubuntu.com]. Vi suggeriamo di scaricare l'immagine che vorrete usare per fare i test la prima volta soltanto ed usare rsync per aggiornarla tutti i giorni. Questo vi permetterà di ridurre il tempo necessario. Rsync scarica soltanto le parti dell'immagine che sono cambiate e tipicamente impiega il 10% del tempo che occorre per scaricare l'intera immagine. Le immagini ISO in corso di test sono elencate su [http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/ iso.qa.ubuntu.com] con il collegamento per lo scaricamento diretto e il comando di sincronizzazione appropriato (fate clic sull'icona attachment:info.png per la pagina di scaricamento). Aggiornamenti su queste immagini saranno annunciate sui canali irc #ubuntu-devel, #ubuntu-testing e appena possibile sulla mailing list Italiana.

Esecuzione dei Test

In doing specific testing of the CD/DVD images it is important to focus on those aspects that are typically not used by those who simply run the latest unstable version on their system through daily updates (Such testing is of course also extremely valuable). Key points in image testing include image integrity (md5sums), Live CD and installer functionality.

Each ISO image has a set of test cases associated with it. Click attachment:Icone/Piccole/test.png on the tracker to see details of the test case and see Testing/InstallMethods for details on each install method.

To subscribe to a specific ISO and tests, select the flavour from applet menu then the architecture (32 bit, 64 bit) from the list. Then select the tests you wish to subscribe to and then hit subscribe. You will receive an email announcing there are tests available, provided you also opt-in to email notification on your profile.

Report dei risultati

The test results are tracked on the iso testing tracker website at iso.qa.ubuntu.com. Once you are registered, you can log in to report your test results. The website is divided into several sections, and results are reported based on the following criteria:

• Flavor of Ubuntu (e.g., Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu, etc.)
• Type of CD image (e.g., live or alternate install cd)
• Method of installation (e.g., manual partitioning, partition resizing, etc.)

Segnalazione test

When you have conducted a test you can report the results in the ISO tracker with a general comment and bug numbers if applicable.

When reporting a broken image it is important that you check the that md5sum corresponds to the ISO being tested to confirm that you do indeed have the correct ISO and that it is not corrupted. To check the md5sum of your image, open a terminal and execute:

md5sum imagename.iso

Where "imagename.iso" is the name of the iso image that you have downloaded and want to verify. The reference value can be found in a file named MD5SUMS in the ISO image download directory. If the md5sum is correct you may also want to run the CD self test on the install media you used.

As with all testing it is important to [https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs file bugs]. If you find a bug, please, search if it has already been reported, and if it hasn't, report it yourself. You should also refer to the [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures bug filing/debugging guide] for that specific package (if available) to make sure you are aware of known issues and have attached the relevant log files.
