Abilitare i repositories Universe e Multiverse

Utilizzando Synaptic

Nel menu dei programmi il gestore dei pacchetti Synaptic è situato in posizione diversa a seconda della distribuzione che state utilizzando: Warty e Hoary, oppure Breezy.

Hoary Hedgehog e Breezy Badger

Avvia Synaptic Package Manager dal menu: System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager

Avvia Synaptic Package Manager dal menu: Computer > System Configuration

Per tutte le versioni di Ubuntu

In Synaptic, scegli la voce Repositories nel menu Settings

Verrà mostrata una lista di repositories. Clicca il bottone Settings in fondo e seleziona Show disabled software sources. Poi clicca il bottone Close.

You should now see checkboxes next to the repositories. Scroll down and enable the Universe repository by ticking the checkbox next to Community Maintained (Universe). Click OK to save your settings. You may also want to enable Multiverse and the Universe Security updates repositories.

Save the changes and close the window by clicking OK.

Update the list of available packages with Reload in the main window.

Once the package list has been updated, packages from universe can be installed.

Adding Outside Repositories

Sometimes other users will make repositories for packages they have.

Note: BE CAREFUL doing this, some outside packages could break your Ubuntu installation.

As shown in the Using Synaptic screenshot above, start Synaptic Package Manager from the Computer or System (depending on your Ubuntu version) menu, System Configuration item. Once Synaptic has launched, choose the Settings menu, [Repositories] item.

You now see a window with a list of repositories.

1. Click New to add a repository.

2. Click Custom

3. On Hoary Hedgehog and Breezy Badger, paste the the repository information, as seen the next section and click ok. On Warty Warthog, you need to break the line down, as seen below.

4. Save the changes and close the window by pushing on OK.

5. Update the list of avaible packages with Reload in the main window.

Repository line

Normally you find websites providing information about a repository in a form like the following example:

   deb http://www.grawert.net/ubuntu/ warty universe

This line provides the information for the Synaptic fields.

* deb means it is a binary, so use the drop-down list to choose binary. Normally this is the default setting.

* http://www.grawert.net/ubuntu/ is the URI (Uniform Resource Identifier), which means in this case the location.

* warty is the release name.

* universe is the section name. There can be several sections, seperated by spaces.

Sometimes the repository line has less information though, as shown in the next example.

   deb http://www.getsweaaa.com/~tseng/ubuntu/debs ./ 

The first two fields (deb and URI) are clearly similar to the first example above. However, the release-name is "./" so just put this (without the quotes) in the release field of Synaptic. It looks weird, but simply specifies the release as being whatever is in the directory given by the URI. Furthermore, there is no section information so just leave that text field blnk in your Synaptic entry.

Notes

1. Only the section information is optional, and then only with respect to the repository-maintainer. If there is section information, it must be specifed in Synaptic. It cannot be left blank.

2. If you make a mistake with the syntax in the fields you will get an error when you click the OK button in Synaptic. One cause is putting a trailing slash at the end of the URI. Also beware of leaving whitespaces at the beginning/end of the fields.

Specific Non Ubuntu Repositories

Hoary Extras

Hoary extras contains software that Ubuntu cannot legally ship. Some of this software may be illegal where you live. Use at your own risk.

To add hoary-extras, add the following:

deb http://ubuntu-backports.mirrormax.net/ hoary-extras main universe multiverse restricted

Enabling Repositories In Kubuntu

Hit Alt+F2, type adept and then hit Enter. Put in your user password, and then Adept, the Kubuntu Package Manager, should come up.

Then, from the menu, head over to Adept -> Manage Repositories.

• http://www.youmortals.com/adept/adeptmanagerepos.jpg From there, enable the Universe repository and the Universe source repository. The "Universe" is the repository that has "universe" listed under the Components column.

  http://www.youmortals.com/adept/adeptenablinguniverse.jpg Add "multiverse" into the Components section of all repositories which mentioned "universe".

  Hit Apply, then hit Close. From the main Adept window, now hit "Fetch Updates". Once this finishes, you will now be able to get packages from the Universe and Multiverse repositories using Adept. Su Breezy 5.10 e Hoary 5.04

Avvia Gestore Pacchetti Synaptic dal menu Sistema > Amministrazione

Avvia Synaptic Package Manager del menu Computer > System Configuration

In Synaptic, selezionare la voce Repositories nel menu Settings

Viene mostrata una lista di repositories. Cliccare sul pulsante Settings in basso e spuntare l'opzione Show disabled software sources. Infine cliccare su Close.

Ora dovrebbe apparire una lista di repositories affiancati dal una casella d'opzione. Scorri la lista ed attiva il repository Universe, spuntando la casella che si trova a fianco di Community Maintained (Universe).

Ora clicca su OK per salvare le impostazioni. Allo stesso modo puoi anche attivare i repository Multiverse e Universe Security.

Salva le impostazioni e chiudi la finestra cliccando su OK.

Aggiorna la lista dei pacchetti disponibili con il comando Reload nella finestra principale.

Una volta che la lista dei pacchetti è stata aggiornata, i pacchetti del repository universe possono essere installati.

Usando il Terminale

In alternativa, per abilitare il repository universe, si può usare il terminale con i suoi comandi.

Avviate Terminal dal menu Applications > System Tools

Digitate il seguente comando:

   bash:~$ sudo nano -w /etc/apt/sources.list

Si avvia l'editor di testo nano che aprirà il file di configurazione per i repositories (n.d.t. il file è /etc/apt/sources.list).

Rimuovete il commento "#" dall'inizio di queste linee:

   #deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hoary universe

   #deb-src ftp://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hoary universe

poi aggiungete la parola multiverse, devono risultare così:

   deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hoary universe multiverse

   deb-src ftp://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hoary universe multiverse

In seguito, aggiornate la lista dei pacchetti con il seguente comando:

   bash:~$ sudo apt-get update

Aggiungere repositories esterni

Talvolta altri utenti creano dei repositories per i pacchetti che hanno creato. E' davvero semplice aggiungere questi repositories al gestore dei pacchetti.

Nota: ATTENZIONE ! effettuare queste operazioni con prudenza, alcuni pacchetti esterni potrebbero danneggiare la vostra installazione Ubuntu.

Aggiungere repositories esterni con Synaptic

Come in precedenza indicato, avviate Synaptic Package Manager dal menu Computer > System Configuration.

In Synaptic, scegliete la voce [Repositories] nel menu Settings.

Ora appare una finestra con una lista di repositories. Premete il pulsante New per aggiungere un repository. Digitate le informazioni sui repositories nel menu a discesa

e nei campi seguendo queste istruzioni.

Di solito i siti web forniscono l'indirizzo dei repositories in un formato simile al seguente esempio:

   deb http://www.grawert.net/ubuntu/ warty universe

Questa linea contiene le informazioni per i campi di Synaptic.

* deb significa che è un file binario, perciò usate la lista a discesa per scegliere binary. Di solito questo è il settaggio di default.

* http://www.grawert.net/ubuntu/ questo l'URI (Uniform Resource Identifier), che indica la collocazione.

* warty questo è il nome della release.

* universe questo è il nome della sezione.

Talvolta la linea del repository riporta una minore quantità di informazioni, come mostriamo nel prossimo esempio:

   deb http://www.getsweaaa.com/~tseng/ubuntu/debs ./ 

I primi due campi (deb e URI) sono uguali a quelli mostrati nel primo esempio. Comunque il nome della versione è "./" perciò inserite questa indicazione (senza le virgolette) nel campo versione di Synaptic. Questa opzione sembra strana, ma semplicemente specifica di fare riferimento alla release, qualunque essa sia, presente nella directory specificata dall'URI. Inoltre, non c'è alcuna informazione sulla section (n.d.t. sezione), perciò lasciate quel campo in bianco.

Nota: Solo il campo section è opzionale, ma la scelta spetta al mantenitore del repository. Se sono fornite, devono essere specificate in Synaptic. Non possono essere lasciate in bianco.

Nota: In caso di errata indicazione della sintassi dei campi, cliccando sul buttone OK verrà visualizzato un errore. Una causa frequente di errore è lo slash (n.d.t. "/") alla fine dell'URI. Inoltre fate anche attenzione a non lasciare spazi vuoti all'inizio o alla fine dei campi.

Salvate le modifiche e chiudete la finestra premendo su OK.

Aggiornate la lista dei pacchetti disponibili premendo su Reload nella finestra principale. Dopo aver scaricato la lista dei pacchetti dai repositories potete installare pacchetti dal repository Universe.

Aggiungere repositories esterni con il terminale

In alternativa, potete attivare altri repositories usando gli strumenti disponibili dalla riga di comando. Avviate il Terminal dal menu Applications > System Tools.

Digitate questi comanti:

(Questo esempio utilizza il repository di tseng).

   bash:~$ echo deb http://www.getsweaaa.com/~tseng/ubuntu/debs ./ | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list

Dovete solo sostituire deb http://www.getsweaaa.com/~tseng/ubuntu/debs ./ con l'indirizzo di un qualunque altro repository esterno.
